WHAT: Trumbull County MetroParks board meeting Thursday

PRESENT: Randy Fabrizio, Nicolette Darkangelo, John Brown, Bob Ward and Patrick Moro

The board:

• Named Fabrizio as chairman and Darkangelo as vice chairwoman.

• Welcomed new members Ward and Moro, who were sworn in by Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge James Fredericka in December. Board members are selected by the judge and serve as volunteers with no compensation.

• Heard from Metroparks Executive Director Zachary Svette that when Educational Highway needs to be closed for work on the Mercy Health emergency building, a different access entrance to the disc golf course at Clarence Darrow Park in Champion will be considered.

• Approved an agreement with the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office for legal services at $1.

• Heard from Darkangelo of plans by the park vision committee to host community events to raise awareness of the parks.

• Approved board members and Svette to attend meetings of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, and other meetings of importance pertaining to metroparks business.

• Accepted a $900 donation from Lindsay Hall for a memorial bench for Gary Riffle.

• Approved a decrease in a contract with MS Consultants, going from $174,349 to $164,349 for work at the Leavittsburg Dam.

• Approved $200 monthly compensation for Svette for January to December for additional office work previously performed by a park secretary outside of his job description. A former secretary left for another job. He will continue the duties unless someone is hired for the position.

• Set meetings for 4:15 p.m. the fourth Thursday at the park offices in Howland.
