WHAT: Board of education meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Jessica Krumpak, Donna Shields, Kristina Merola, Mike Morris and Nick Gallo

The board:

• Named Shields as board president and Krumpak as vice president.

• Heard from Superintendent Gary Carkido a new program has started where high school juniors and seniors mentor seventh and eighth graders as they prepare for high school classes and programs.

• Named Shields as representative to the Trumbull Career & Technical Center.

• Approved committee appointments: Krumpak and Merola to personnel and programs and policy; Morris and Gallo to finance and buildings and grounds; Shields and Gallo to business, and Morris as legislative liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association.

• Recognized the village police and school resource officers for their service to the schools.

• Announced the high school band and cheerleaders will attend a basketball game for the students at Fairhaven School in Niles on Jan. 30.

• Set meetings for 6 pm, the third Wednesday of each month at the high school media center.
