Braceville seeks new part-time police chief

BRACEVILLE — Township trustees are seeking a new part-time police chief and will discuss the position at a 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday.

Trustees have decided the police chief position will be 16 hours per week. The position was previously 24 hours per week.

David Fay is serving as interim chief following the retirement of Chad Bernard, who served 20 years with the department, including the past five years as chief.

As interim chief, Fay’s pay was increased from $18.50 to $21 per hour.

At their recent organizational meeting, trustees approved pay adjustments for department heads and employees, effective Jan. 1.

The zoning inspector will increase from $500 to $525 per month.

Police sergeants will increase from $18.50 to $19 per hour and patrolmen from $17.50 to $18 per hour.

The assistant fire chief will increase from $500 to $550 per month.

For the fire department, captains and lieutenants will stay at $100 per month, basic emergency medical technicians from $16.50 to $17 per hour, advanced EMTs from $17.50 to $18 per hour, and paramedics from $18.50 to $19 per hour.

The road superintendent will increase from $21.78 to $22.75 per hour.

Full-time road workers will increase from $19 to $19.50 per hour, and part-time road workers and summer workers will remain at $15 per hour.

Also, trustees named Jeff Tucker as chairman and Todd Garland as vice chairman.

Patrick Whitmore was appointed to the zoning commission and Gary Schuster to the zoning appeals board, both for five-year terms.

Trustees set meetings for 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
