Project on Salt Springs Road in the works
WEATHERSFIELD — The Trumbull County Engineer’s Office is planning a $750,000 resurfacing of Salt Springs Road and Niles Carver Road, both in Weathersfield Township, in spring and summer 2026.
Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro, in conjunction with Weathersfield officials, proposes to improve both roads by milling and resurfacing 0.90 miles of Salt Springs Road beginning at Austintown Warren Road and milling and resurfacing 0.93 miles of Niles Carver Road from Salt Springs Road to the southern Niles corporation limits.
Additional work includes the replacement of three culverts on Salt Springs Road between Austintown Warren Road and Carson Salt Springs Road and the replacement of two culverts on Niles Carver Road between McKees Lane and Salt Springs Road.
DeChristofaro said the project also proposes partial depth pavement repairs and the application of pavement markings, as necessary, throughout the newly paved sections of Salt Springs Road and Niles Carver Road.
Officials said construction is set to begin in the spring and summer of 2026.
DeChristofaro said during construction, traffic will be maintained at all times except when it is necessary to close the roads for a maximum of 14 consecutive days during the replacement of each cross culvert.
The official detour route for the closure of Salt Springs Road will use Austintown Warren Road and Salt Springs Road and the official detour for the closure of Niles Carver Road between Ohltown McDonald Road and the southern Niles corporation limit will be Ohltown McDonald Road, Salt Springs Road, state Route 46 and McKees Lane.
The official detour route for the closure of Niles Carver Road between Ohltown McDonald Road and Salt Springs Road will be Ohltown McDonald Road and Salt Springs Road.
DeChristofaro said the closures will not occur simultaneously.
He said the projects will result in minor stream and wetland impacts and the removal of habitat for various species protected by the Endangered Species Act.
DeChristofaro said no no regulated material concerns were identified.
As part of the environmental process for the project, the engineer’s office is seeking comments from the public.
Comments or questions concerning environmental impact or the projects can be directed to Gary Shafer by Dec. 15 at Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, 650 North River Road NE, Warren, 44483 or by calling 330-675-2640.
