WHAT: Board of education meeting Dec. 15

PRESENT: Terry Kelly, Steve Gilanyi, Elizabeth Dunn, Megan Gibbs and Cory Freeman

The board:

• Is seeking applications from interested residents to fill an opening on the board. Dunn and Gilanyi were reelected to the board in November. Freeman chose to not seek reelection, and no one sought the seat in the election. Officials plan to name someone at the Jan. 12 organizational meeting.

• Approved the senior trip to Orlando, Florida, April 12-16.

• Approved Taira Weimer and Morgan Eskridge as student teachers, with Weimer from Youngstown State University and Eskridge from Kent State University.

• Recognized Abbigail Castle for her success competing this fall in the high school cross country regional championships, which qualified her for the state championships in November, where she placed 15th out of 214 runners.
