Occupants of apartment near YSU report armed intruder
YOUNGSTOWN — A man and woman reported being awakened in an apartment at the University Edge Apartments on Lincoln Avenue near Youngstown State University at 6:40 a.m. Sunday to an armed intruder wearing a ski mask and a “puffy coat” in the bedroom.
The intruder was pointing the gun at him, the man said. The man said he rolled over onto the woman to protect her, but the intruder “immediately left,” according to a Youngstown State University police report. The man said he heard the door close behind the suspect.
The man said the intruder’s jacket was black and his gun was a Glock. He said he believed it was a man because of the way the person moved, the report states.
Both victims said they did not have any problems with anyone that would have led to this.
When asked about his roommate, the man said “he would not do something like that.” The report contained no remarks from the woman except that she did not know of anyone who would have done something like that.
The four officers who responded did a “building and area sweep,” but no suspect was located.
A YSU Police dispatcher notified the officers of a person riding a bicycle on Rayen Avenue who matched the description of the intruder and caught up to him, the report states.
Officers determined that the “individual was uninvolved.”
