Maplewood Board of Education member leaves seat

MECCA — The Maplewood Board of Education has accepted the resignation of board member Tami Morrison, who has served on the board since January 2018.

Morrison has served as board president during her time on the board.

Her resignation was effective Dec. 9.

The school district is seeking letters of interest from school district residents who would like to serve in the vacant seat. Letters can be emailed by Dec. 31 to Treasurer Merri Smith at msmith@maplewoodschools.org.

The person selected would serve January 2026 to December 2027. If a person chooses to continue on the board, they would need to run in the November 2027 general election for a new term.

Superintendent Kevin O’Connell said the board should be able to make a decision by the January board meeting.

The board also at the December meeting accepted the retirement of Maplewood Elementary Principal Elizabeth Goerig, effective March 1. She has been a principal in the district for the past 17 years and helped her school to win state honors for top scores in education.

Starting at $3.23/week.
