Three vie for two trustee seats in Liberty

LIBERTY — Things could be “business as usual” in the township, as a pair of trustees elected in 2017 look to continue with their positions against a candidate who is a complete unknown.

This year’s race for two seats is among three candidates as Greg Cizmar and Arnie Clebone, both aiming for a third four-year term, are joined by Raymond Agnone Jr. on the ballot.

While both Cizmar and Clebone have returned the paper’s pre-election questionnaires and Clebone has participated in an endorsement interview, Agnone did not complete his questionnaire and did not respond to multiple invitations to participate in an endorsement interview.

GREG CIZMAR

Cizmar, a Liberty High School graduate and owner of a local small business, has been a fervent supporter of the community, calling it home his whole life.

Cizmar said Thursday that he plans to continue with what he said got him elected — fiscal responsibility, improving roads and bringing businesses into the township — which he says he’s done.

“Starbucks, Chipotle, a new hotel since I got in; but the roads, we’ve done 41, almost 42 miles of road since I got in in 2018,” Cizmar said. “We’ve done drainage, we’ve done crack sealing, so I don’t have three priorities — there’s no priorities. It’s keeping everything moving in Liberty.”

ARNIE CLEBONE

Clebone, as part of his questionnaire, noted Liberty’s location near Interstate 80, state Route 11 and the 711 connector as positions for continued growth — mainly because of its proximity to Cleveland and Pittsburgh and attractions like Mill Creek Park and Stambaugh Auditorium.

Clebone wrote that he’d like to promote commercial, office and light industrial development on large tracts of vacant land by collaborating with regional partners, securing grants and funding. He’d also like to update the 25-year-old comprehensive plan the township already has — focusing on Belmont Avenue, Gypsy Lane and Tibbetts Wick Road, which are areas Clebone deemed “underdeveloped.”

Clebone wrote that he’d also like to streamline property interventions by implementing expedited protocols for addressing vacant, abandoned, or blighted properties to prevent further deterioration and safety hazards, as part of his third goal of ensuring neighborhoods are safe, attractive and well-maintained.
