Trumbull County
WHAT: Trumbull Career & Technical Center board meeting Thursday
The board:
• Heard from Board President Brooke Vondrasek, chairwoman of the high school programs committee, that there will be literacy training for staff and an author visit next spring to work with students and staff.
• Hired Willie Seny and Connor McDermott as custodians to replace recent retirements. Patrick St. Clair is a custodian on leave of absence.
• Approved an agreement with Shepherd of the Valley-Liberty for supervised nursing aide experiences and concurrent in-service for high school health science academy students preparing for state-tested nurse aides.
• Announced sophomore career day visits will be Dec. 2 and 3 with no school for students.
• Approved a new water heater replacement with RL Deppmann at $114,570. Officials said the current heater is on “its last leg.”
• Set monthly meetings for 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. The organizational meeting is Jan. 15.

WHAT: Township trustees meeting Nov. 11
PRESENT: Steve Gerberry, Richard Harkins and Edward Whittaker
Trustees:
• Accepted the retirement of fire Lt. Daniel Shehy effective Nov. 22. Shehy served with the fire department for many years.
• Hired Jacob Gascon and Kora Thomas as probationary firefighters.
• Set the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony for 5 p.m. Dec. 6 at the community park with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
• Held a moment of silence for Terry Bickerstaff, a township firefighter in the 1980s who died recently.

WHAT: Board of education meeting Nov. 12
PRESENT: Beth Haddle, Michelle Garman, Joel Polonius and Kenneth Wallace
ABSENT: Mark Haddle
The board:
• Authorized the disposal of 10 Lenovo Chromebooks and two iPads and iPad minis.
• Approved employing 11 individuals to coaching positions for the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Trumbull County Educational Service Center to collaborate and participate in the appointment of a business advisory council.
• Approved the district’s membership in the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding for the 2026 fiscal year and authorized the payment of membership dues.
• Approved paying school security officer Tim Podgorny a $2,000 stipend for purchasing ammunition, gun maintenance and accessories. Firearms are employee-owned and will not be purchased with district funds.
