WHAT: Board of Education meeting Nov. 20

PRESENT: Aime Crowder, Tonya Kline, Teresa Oakes, Mark Stimpert and Daniel Williams

The board:

• Approved a contract with Howland Alarm at $4,599 for front entrance security upgrades to the school buildings..

• Approved a rental agreement with East Coast Elite Dance for use of the school facilities May 15 and 16 at $7,500.

• Approved the high school criminal justice class for field trips to the Trumbull Correctional Institution April 7 and Mansfield Reformatory April 28. Students in the college credit class have already visited the Newton Falls court to learn the different aspects of the criminal justice system.

• Approved an after school intervention and enrichment program for grades K-12 Nov. 11 to March 26 with sessions lasting two hours.

• Approved an old yearbook sale of $30 to $80 per book by the high school yearbook staff.

• Received a $1,000 donation from AMVETS for the food pantry.

Trumbull County

WHAT: Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities meeting Nov. 17

PRESENT: Jodi Glaser, Mauro DiVieste, Kimberly Hynes, Melissa Baker, Tim Calderone, Mary Cunningham and Larry Larson

The board:

• Approved seeking proposals for a youth respite house where parents needing help with children can go. A respite home is where temporary care is provided for a person who typically requires care at home, allowing their family caregiver a break.

• Are finalizing remodeling work and other updates to offices at the Tomaski Center off North Road with plans for an open house once work is finished.

• Approved updates to the dress code prohibiting staff and students from wearing such items as open toed shoes and yoga pants.

Champion

WHAT: Board of education meeting Nov. 10

PRESENT: Jim Scher, Aaron Abrahamson, John Pitts, Patricia Fisher and David Mahan.

The board:

• Accepted the retirement resignations of Beth Nicholas, high school business, with 25 years in the district; Tim Cope, high school athletic director, with 24 years in the district, and Barb Martini, middle school STEM, with 26 years in the district, all effective at the end of the school year.

• Recognized members of the boys soccer team on their successful season.

Warren

WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: John Brown, Todd Johnson, Andrew Herman, Greg Greathouse, James Shaffer, Tiffany Stanford, Ronald White, Gary Steinbeck, Helen Rucker and Mayor Doug Franklin

ABSENT: Honeya Price and Michael O’Brien

Council:

• Named Anthony Iannucci to serve as the city’s representative to the Joint Economic Development District between Warren and Champion for the Mercy Health emergency care center being constructed off Educational Highway. Iannucci will begin serving Monday. Champion trustees named Rex Fee as their representative to the JEDD board

• Approved the appointment of Larry Larson as a member of Warren Fair Housing Commission for three-year term January 2026 to December 2028.

• Approved submitting an application with the Trumbull County Reutilization Corp. (Land Bank) for a brownfield remediation program grant. The city has identified brownfield sites they wish to get cleaned up. Officials said funds cover lead and asbestos removal.

• Accepted a donation of property from West Warren Acquisition LLC to be used for the completion of the Warren fire suppression system pump station

• Heard from Franklin the Community Resource Center project has been “paused” as negotiations for land acquisition for the building is taking place. He said land acquisitions should be completed in a few weeks.

• Received state recognition from the Ohio Senate for the Roosevelt Area Neighborhood Group for the creation of the North End Memorial Garden.

• Heard from DelShawn Scott on the new Ember program, which provides workshops 9 a.m. to noon each Saturday for local businesses. Rucker said the effort is to help local businesses thrive. Scott said a meeting is set Dec. 10 to plan for 2026.

• Will seek qualifications for professional engineering and design services for constructing the Belle Street sewer improvement project.
