WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Julie Stimpert, Brian Axiotis, Bob Burke, Patricia Benetis, Kevin Rufener and Mayor David Hanson
Council:
• Passed a proclamation honoring U.S. military presence and service in the community and recognizing AMVETS Post 112, VFW Post 3332, American Legion Post 236, and Ohio Army National Guard who will be recognized Tuesday at the Veterans Day program at the high school. Stimpert said plans are to get and post signs in the historic district honoring the four different military groups which she said is unique for a community to have all four organizations.
• Gave support to the downtown signage project to proceed with designs and installation. The signs will note the downtown business district is on the National Register of Historic Places. Officials said the custom historic signage has been designed to enhance the district’s visual character, celebrate its heritage, and create a cohesive aesthetic consistent with the values of the village;
• Entered an agreement with Walters Paving at $76,400 for paving improvements at the wastewater treatment plant. Rufener said an access road leading to the plant is in bad shape and needs worked on before winter,
• Entered into an agreement for cleaning services from Fresh Clean Balance for village facilities.
• Purchased a skid steer loader with attachments at $82,337 from Middlefield Farm and Garden for use by the electric department.
• Appointed Samantha Kropp to a two-year term on the treasury investment board in 2026 and 2027.
• Announced the police department will host a Fill a Cruiser event for collecting nonperishable food items 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 22 in the IGA parking lot. The police hosted a recent drug take back day and collected 42 pounds of items.
* Announced the village administration building will be closed Nov, 21 for electrical work.
• Announced the Christmas tree lighting and holiday parade is set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the downtown district.
• Announced the Scott Street sewer line project is ongoing.
• Heard from resident Ashley Morgan, who uses a wheelchair, asking if sidewalks can be improved in parts of the community.
