Liberty trustee granted bond
WARREN — A Liberty Township official was granted bond in his assault case, but not without a few stipulations.
Liberty Trustee Devon Stanley, who was arrested on a second-degree felonious assault charge last month, appeared in court Wednesday, as his attorney, visiting judge Thomas Teodosio and a special prosecutor all appeared via Zoom. Teodosio is a retired judge from the Ninth District Court of Appeals.
A representative of Trumbull County Common Pleas court said a $10,000 bond was set for Stanley, but he will be required to wear a GPS tracker, which will be set up by the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department.
Stanley is also to have no contact with the victim, directly, indirectly or through a third party and no alcohol or illegal substances, for which he will be subject to random testing. Stanley is also to comply with the conditions of the temporary protection order.
Stanley was arrested at a Girard-Niles high school football game Oct. 24 at Bo Rein Stadium in Niles. He is alleged to have repeatedly punched a woman, breaking her nose and ribs.
Stanley also serves as a deputy in the Trumbull County Clerk of Courts Office.
TCESC recognized for performance
NILES — The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Development has presented the Trumbull County Educational Service Center with the High Performance Educational Service Center Award for the ninth consecutive year.
Fiscal Officer Stacy Foster said the recognition notes how the service center makes cost savings for school districts it serves part of its business model.
She said the center for example provides special education services to districts, saving them from having to spend money for staff. Foster said the state looks at the center’s cost saving measures through various programs and services.
The center applies for the recognition through the Ohio Association of Educational Service Centers.
Township seeks funds for sidewalk
WARREN TOWNSHIP — Trustees at a special meeting Tuesday approved submitting an application, working with the county, to seek state funds for the planned North Leavitt Road sidewalk project.
Trustee Ed Anthony said the township is working with the county sanitary engineer’s office for the sidewalk project in excess of $100,000 for which the township’s local share will be $25,000 or 20%.
Fee said the sidewalk will be along North Leavitt Road and connect to the LaBrae school complex. He said some sections of the current sidewalk are in good condition.
