2 killed in weekend shooting in Warren

WARREN — Warren police are investigating a fatal shooting in which two people were found dead in a parked car over the weekend.

Officers from the Warren Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at a home in the 2000 block of Jackson Street SW shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, according to a Warren police news release. They discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the driveway of a residence at that address.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced both victims dead at the scene, police said. The news release did not identify the victims.

The department’s Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the homicide probe. No arrests were mentioned in the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Frank Tempesta at 330-841-2651 or the anonymous tip line at 330-841-2914.

These were the sixth and seventh homicides of the year in Warren following two shootings the same weekend in early August.

The first fatal shooting that weekend occurred around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 3 in the 300 block of Scott Street NE in which Choice Washington, 34, of Oak Knoll Avenue SE was shot in the forehead at close range. The suspect, David Hollie, 46, fled in a stolen gray 2019 Buick Lacrosse and crashed on Youngstown Road in Niles during a police pursuit.

Hollie was convicted last month in the murder and was sentenced Oct. 28 to 41.5 years in prison on charges of murder and having weapons under disability, both with firearm specifications, as well as tampering with evidence, failure to comply with the order of a police order and receiving stolen property.

A few hours later, around 5 a.m. Aug. 3, a fight and gunfire broke out in the parking lot of Convenient Mart on Elm Road near Atlantic Street that left one man dead and another injured. The store was later boarded up as a nuisance property by city officials.

Warren recorded four homicides in 2024.
