Warren police probe gunshot calls

WARREN — Police responded to two separate reports of gunfire in Warren neighborhoods just a block apart early Friday morning.

According to a Warren Police Department report, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Rex Boulevard NW at 1:49 a.m. Friday, following reports of shots fired. Residents at one address reported hearing multiple gunshots outside while in their living room and observed people talking afterward. Officers recovered four .39 mm and five .45 caliber shell casings in the driveway and yard near the residence, which were collected as evidence.

A homeowner in the 800 block of Rex Boulevard NW reported hearing what sounded like fireworks overnight and was informed by police that a gunshot was found above her front south-facing window. No additional gunfire damage was found on nearby houses.

A homeowner nearby provided video footage showing vehicle headlights and the sound of gunfire. Residents reported a dark-colored truck leaving the area shortly after the shots. Police were unable to locate any suspects in the vicinity.

According to a second Warren Police Department report, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Packard Street NW at 4:10 a.m. on the same day after multiple callers reported someone firing a machine gun and possible damage to residences.

Officers recovered five .45 caliber cartridge cases in a kitchen at 784 Packard St. NW, one live .223 cartridge in a bedroom at the same address, and 17 .223 cartridge cases in the road at the intersection of Wilson and Packard Street NW.

A homeowner on Packard Street NW provided a bullet jacket and leads to police.No arrests have been reported in either incident, and both investigations remain ongoing.
