Bristol
WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday
PRESENT: Doug Seemann, Jim Cicchillo and Jeff Waldeck
Trustees:
• Named Olivia Pierce as the new fiscal officer effective Nov. 1. She has been hired part-time and replaces Nicole Klingeman, who is leaving Friday because of a conflict with her job at the county engineer’s office.
• Heard from fire Chief Steve Craiger that Mecca trustees said they will not be considering Bristol for the EMS contract.
• Heard from former fire Chief Roger French, who said it is challenging to get volunteers and part-time employees. He said a fire levy needs to be considered. Craiger said there is a wage war with the smaller departments, noting the amount of funding is decreasing while the training requirements are increasing.
• Heard from resident Gina Robertson about the improvements made at Sager Cemetery. Plans are to pressure wash the chapel and work on lamp posts. Seemann said the township is seeking quotes on the Sager Cemetery Old Stone Chapel Wall.
• Heard from Ken Weeks of the zoning commission the next meeting is Nov. 11. The last meeting focused on shipping containers and solar energy systems. Weeks said the zoning commission has one term ending Dec. 31 and the zoning board of appeals also has one term ending Dec. 31.
• Announced the bike trail ribbon cutting will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
• Heard from Seemann that SCOPE Executive Director Mike Wilson will be at the Nov. 15 park lighting ceremony to sign up volunteers and seniors for the new senior center, which will open in January. Officials said they are looking at alternating days with Champion, which also wants to have a senior center.
• Made a motion to resend a section back to the zoning commission to have the added language of allowing the fire department to do inspections in the registration process. Craiger said the fire department does not have the authorization to go into a single-family dwelling.
• Approved a motion to accept the text addition to classifications of uses to the zoning resolution of porches, decks, breezeways, pavilions and gazebos.
Girard
WHAT: Board of education meeting Thursday
PRESENT: Vincent Ragozine, Joe Castor, Sue Ellen Harris-Davis, Joseph Datchuk and Tammy KIng
The board:
• Announced a time capsule buried 25 years ago will be undug at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Nov. 25 at Girard Intermediate School. Retired teachers Rita O’Brien and Beverly Young have been invited. Superintendent Bryan O’Hara said plans are for a new time capsule to be buried this school year.
• Approved Janice Semple as a substitute school nurse at $17.50 per hour, Robert Catchpole as a substitute bus driver at $19 per hour, both on an as-needed basis, and Truman Boylen as a substitute bus mechanic at $30 per hour.
• Approved Ryan Dunn as an on-board instructor at $30 per hour for the transportation department on an as-needed basis.
• Approved Best Bus Logic LLC for transportation virtual support and assistance for bus drivers at $370.
