Liberty Township trustee arrested Friday
NILES — Although Niles police are not providing details as to the reason why, attorney, Liberty Township trustee and Trumbull County Deputy Clerk of Courts Devon Stanley was arrested on a possible felonious assault charge Friday night.
Trumbull County jail records show that he was booked into the jail Friday by Niles police. The “charge description” on the jail website for Stanley is “felonious assault,” though it is not known whether the Niles prosecutor has reviewed that charge or what degree felony that might be.
Charges listed for individuals in area jails can frequently change from the time the person is taken to jail and when the person is arraigned in municipal court.
When a Niles police dispatcher was asked Saturday where the arrest took place, what time and under what circumstances, he would only answer that the charge filed against Stanley is felonious assault.
Other news outlets are reporting that his arrest took place at the Friday night football game in Niles between Niles and Girard.
When Randy Law was elected Trumbull County clerk of courts in the general election last November, he hired Stanley to serve as Trumbull County chief deputy clerk of courts.
Stanley was a private practice attorney before going to work for Law. He also had been serving as Girard Municipal Court prosecutor in the past, but it is not known whether he still has that position.
He appears to still have a law office on Main Street in Niles. Stanley won reelection to a four-year term as Liberty trustee in November 2023.
