Culvert work in Gustavus, Southington
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) proposes to replace two culverts along various state routes in Gustavus and Southington townships in Trumbull County.
• State Route 193 in Gustavus, just north of Wakefield Creek Road, will be closed for a period not to exceed 14 consecutive calendar days. The official detour route for this closure will use U.S. Route 322, state Route 11 and state Route 87.
• U.S. Route 422 in Southington between Phalanx Mills Herner Road and the Portage County line will be closed for a period not to exceed 21 consecutive calendar days. The official detour route for this closure will use state Route 282 in Portage County and state Route 305 in Trumbull County.
Local traffic detour routes also will be established for each location, as necessary, to maintain access for emergency/public services. Additionally, the State Route 193 closures in Ashtabula County and Trumbull County will not occur at the same time.
All necessary signage will be posted within the project construction limits and all intersecting side roads. Traffic information will be posted to the project website prior to the start of construction. Access shall be maintained to all adjacent properties, businesses and side roads for the duration of the construction project.
The proposed project is in the preliminary engineering phase and right-of-way acquisition is ongoing. The $1,140,899 project is estimated to begin construction in the spring / summer of 2026.
The project will result in minor stream and wetland impacts and the removal of trees that may provide suitable wooded habitat for various bat species protected by the Endangered Species Act. As part of the environmental process for the project, ODOT is seeking any comments the public may have regarding the proposed project. Project-related issues the public may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, businesses, the local economy, historic or cultural resources, etc. Anyone with comments or questions can contact Sean Carpenter at 330-786-2274 or sean.carpenter@dot-ohio.gov. Comments received by Oct. 22 will be considered during project development, but all comments received will receive a reply.
