City man convicted in fatal shooting
WARREN — A Warren man convicted of murder in the shooting death of a 34-year-old father of three will learn his punishment next week after a jury quickly found him guilty Wednesday.
David N. Hollie, 46, faces sentencing Tuesday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Sarah Thomas Kovoor. Hollie was found guilty of murder and having weapons under disability, both with firearm specifications, as well as tampering with evidence, failure to comply and receiving stolen property. Hollie, represented by attorney Aaron Meikle, could face life in prison for the murder charge.
The charges stem from the early morning shooting of Choice D. Washington on Aug. 3, in the 300 block of Scott Street in Warren.
The jury began deliberating just before 3 p.m. Wednesday and returned with a verdict before 4 p.m. Prosecutors said Hollie shot Washington in the forehead around 2:40 a.m. Washington, who was unarmed, was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker told jurors that Hollie fled the scene in a stolen Buick LaCrosse. Hours after the shooting, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper spotted the stolen car and chased Hollie at speeds of more than 100 mph.
The pursuit ended when the trooper used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, leading to Hollie’s arrest. Officers found a camouflage jacket in the car that matched what Hollie wore earlier, according to testimony.
Hollie was previously convicted in 2006 for involuntary manslaughter. That victim was Angeline Lavine, 37, of Scott Street NE. Hollie served 10 years in prison. Because of past violent crimes, he was not allowed to have a gun.
