Brookfield man convicted of child porn gets probation
BROOKFIELD — A 20-year-old man from Brookfield will spend five years on strict probation and must register as a sex offender for the next 25 years after admitting he had child pornography.
Nathaniel Thompson, of North Albright McKay Road, pleaded guilty to two serious crimes of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. Each crime is a second-degree felony.
Trumbull County Judge Sarah T. Kovoor gave Thompson high-risk probation instead of prison time at a hearing Wednesday.
As part of the rules, he must join a special program run by Volunteers of America and follow it closely.
Police started looking into Thompson after a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Cuyahoga County.
Officers found illegal pictures and videos on his phones and computers.
Because he is now a Tier 2 sex offender, Thompson has to check in with the sheriff’s office two times every year for 25 years.
A background check was done before the judge decided his punishment.
