Bristol discusses plans for senior center

BRISTOL — With Bristol Township approved to receive $13,380 for a new senior center, officials said the project may begin next year. However, the amount may not be enough to meet residents’ expectations.

In September, the Trumbull County commissioners approved $625,000 annually to support senior centers in Warren, Howland, Cortland, Hubbard, Newton Falls and Niles, and three new centers in Bristol, Brookfield and Champion townships.

Family & Community Services Inc., which runs the area’s SCOPE centers, will receive $369,900 to operate the three new centers.

Residents at the Bristol trustee meeting Tuesday asked about the status of the center.

Trustee Chairman Doug Seemann said trustees appreciate the funds received, but emphasized the need to evaluate what services and programs can be provided and how the center will be managed.

Plans are to have a center at the township administration building. Trustee Jim Cicchillo said he would like to see the center opened in 2026.

Residents have filled out surveys of what programs and services they would like, such as line dancing and meals.

In other business, trustees approved an agreement with The Bowers Family Trust for the transfer of land in Bowers Cemetery, off Thompson Clark Road, to help with improving public access to the cemetery.

Seemann said the township and the trust are agreeing to switch properties at the cemetery, which will allow the township to improve public access to the cemetery with direct access to the parts of the cemetery.

Seemann said the trust agreed to cover costs for a 10-foot-wide walking path in part of the cemetery.

Additionally, trustees have reached out to the Trumbull County Land Bank about demolishing a structure located at 2405 Mahan Denman Road. Seemann mentioned that the township is requesting financial support from the land bank to help cover the expenses related to demolishing the property.

He said there was no request by the property owner for a public hearing.

The property sits on less than two acres, officials said.

Starting at $3.23/week.
