WHAT: City council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Kevin Piros, Don Moore, Jim Bradley, Kathy Fleischer, Richard McClain, John Picuri, Scott Rowley and Mayor Deidre Petrosky

Council:

• Heard from Finance Director Patti Gibson that the city has changed its domain from cortlandoh.org to cortlandoh.gov, which she said is a more secure website for users for official government and public entities. Gibson said a $5,997 grant was received, with a 10% local match.

• Heard from fire Chief David Rea that the fire department is working with the American Red Cross to make smoke detectors available to the public. Firefighters will install them. Residents needing smoke detectors can call 330-637-2891. Smoke detectors also are available from the Red Cross for those who are deaf.

• Gave first reading to have police Chief David Morris enact temporary parking restrictions on Heritage Lane between East Main Street and Emerson Street. Morris said there have been numerous complaints of people parking vehicles on the curb, making it difficult for motorists driving to see the road curving ahead.

• Gave first reading to extending project funding at a cost not to exceed $30,000 for additional work, services and materials to the West Main Street waterline replacement project with TK Excavating that were not in the original plans. This was the second change order for the project. A previous change order was for a cost not to exceed $47,576.The project was funded through a $250,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission through Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, a $284,105 grant through the Ohio Department of Development Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Program, $159,280 of American Rescue Plan Act funding and a $185,496 20-year interest-free loan through the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement Program.
