Woman arrested after road rage report
LIBERTY — A woman arrested Saturday afternoon by Liberty officers after being at the center of a near-accident was released on bond.
Ashley Williams, 41, pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated menacing after appearing in Girard Municipal Court on Monday morning.
According to the police report, officers were called to Mansell Drive about a “road rage” incident involving a firearm, where dispatchers said the victim, a woman, was almost struck by another vehicle. The vehicle was identified as a white Volkswagen Tiguan, with the license plate being discerned by an officer who was familiar with it from previous calls to service.
The report states the woman told officers she was traveling west on Mansell Drive while Williams was traveling east, and a man walking a dog was in Williams’ lane of travel. The woman said Williams swerved into her lane, nearly causing a head-on collision — which led to the woman yelling “slow down” at her.
The report states that at that time, Williams entered a driveway, turned her vehicle around and drove toward the woman, arriving at her residence and arguing with her.
The woman told officers she began arguing with Williams, who asked her if she wanted to hit her, but the woman told Williams that she had to stop and yield to oncoming traffic. The woman alleged Williams began calling her a “fat (expletive)” and when she retaliated, Williams pulled out a black firearm, cocked it and pointed it at her, the report states.
The woman said Williams then proceeded to leave westbound on Mansell Drive.
A resident was able to provide security footage of Williams’ vehicle as it drove past, but the altercation happened out of frame, according to the report. The woman’s fiance said he heard the altercation, but was still in her vehicle and did not see the firearm.
The officer confirmed with the woman that Williams was the person who pointed a firearm at her using a photo of her, and she said she wanted to press charges because she scared her.
Officers made contact with Williams at her residence and asked her to come outside and arrested her. Williams said she did not want to speak with officers beforehand, according to the report.
Officers asked Williams if the incident had involved a firearm and whether they could search her home and vehicle. She consented to a vehicle search, but denied a search of her home, and the vehicle search yielded no gun.
