Warren man indicted in theft of car with kids inside
WARREN — A Warren man was indicted Wednesday on charges of kidnapping and motor vehicle theft after allegedly stealing a car from a grocery store parking lot with a juvenile inside.
Gerald Jones Jr., 34, of West Market Street, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court before Judge Cynthia Westcott Rice.
Jones remained in the Trumbull County jail Wednesday. He is being held without bond, which was set in Warren Municipal Court because of a temporary protection order, according to court records.
According to a Warren police report, officers were dispatched July 11 to a Save-A-Lot store after a woman said her vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot with her juvenile child inside.
Dispatchers advised that a juvenile was able to exit the vehicle before it left the lot.
Another juvenile exited after the vehicle came to a stop at a residence and was returned to the store by a passerby.
The report states the vehicle was later located parked in a driveway several blocks away, where officers observed a man walking from it.
The man was taken into custody and transported to jail. The offenses occurred around 1:45 p.m. No weapon or force was involved, and no injuries were reported.
