Scammers targeting families of inmates, sheriff’s office warns

WARREN — The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office has cautioned residents of a scam that targets family members of individuals in jail. Scammers are posing as officials and pressuring loved ones to pay court fees, fines or house arrest costs over the phone.

The sheriff’s office in a media release, emphasized they will never request payments by phone. All legitimate payments, the office says, are processed through the courts, clerk of courts or official government channels.

Residents receiving suspicious calls should hang up immediately, avoid sharing personal or financial information and contact the sheriff’s office with concerns.

The public is urged to stay vigilant and share this advisory to prevent falling victim to these scams.
