WARREN — The historic gazebo at Courthouse Square in downtown Warren has been fully renovated and unveiled to the public, marking a significant step in the area’s revitalization efforts.

The project, led by DeSalvo Construction with support from local leaders and community organizations was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

The gazebo, originally constructed in 1913, underwent a comprehensive overhaul that began two years ago.

Its origins trace back to the early 1800s when four acres were designated as a village square after Warren was established as the seat of Trumbull County in 1801.

William Casey, treasurer of Trumbull 100 and the project’s primary coordinator, highlighted the extensive work involved. “We rebuilt it from the ground up, preserving original features like the roof panels while replacing rotted wood and adding new copper flashing and tie-downs to ensure it lasts another 100 years,” Casey said.

The renovation, costing approximately $200,000, included new historically accurate railings, a gravel-filled perimeter, and a new sandstone floor, with DeSalvo Construction contributing their time and expertise at no cost.

Warren Mayor Doug Franklin praised the public-private partnership that made the project possible.

“This is a prime example of what collaboration can achieve,” Franklin said, noting the involvement of Trumbull 100, the Rotary Club, and the Trumbull Community Foundation. The renovation addressed years of neglect, with the mayor discussing the importance of maintaining public assets.

New synchronized lights, designed to match the colors of the recently restored swan fountain, that Franklin said will enhance the gazebo’s role in future events like Oktoberfest on Sept. 20.

Mandy Thiry, president of Trumbull 100, expressed pride in the completed project.

“It’s beautiful to see this historic structure come to life again, especially with the new lights adding a modern touch,” Thiry said.

The gazebo’s revival is expected to attract more community events and boost foot traffic in downtown Warren.

Starting at $3.23/week.
