One dead after Warren shooting

WARREN — It was a violent weekend in Warren as police are investigating three separate shootings, including one Sunday morning that left a man dead.

The shooting occurred just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday at the Convenient Food Mart at the corner of Elm Road and Larchmont Avenue on the city’s northeast side, Warren police said.

Police were called at 5:22 a.m. to the shooting and a news release states there were several gunshot victims at the scene.

Two male victims were transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for medical treatment, and police later confirmed that one of the victims died. No further information on the second victim was provided.

As many as 40 shell casings were found in or near the store’s parking lot, which was taped off as police officers and detectives worked the scene. The investigation was ongoing as of Sunday afternoon.

This incident was one of three shootings over the weekend. At 9:15 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 500 block of Phillips Drive SW for a gunshot victim. Officers located the victim and provided aid. The female victim was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for further treatment.

At 2:40 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 300 block of Scott Street NE in reference to another gunshot victim.

Officers located the victim and provided aid. The male victim was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment.

No further information on the victims was provided by the police department.

PREVIOUS HOMICIDES

This is the fourth homicide of the year in Warren. The body of Kejuan Watson, 21, was found just before 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in a wooded area off Raiders Path SW. No updates on the case have been provided.

In May, two men were killed in separate shootings days apart.

On May 16, Jody Hall, 22, was fatally shot in the Fairview Gardens area near the 2100 block of Draper Street SE. A report stated officers responded around 2:30 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported gunshots from residences on Draper Street and Benton Street SE.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle overturned in a parking lot next to the Fairview Garden Office on Benton Street SE. Officers observed an individual inside the vehicle but could not reach the person.

Warren Fire Department and EMT Ambulance personnel were called to extricate the occupant, later identified as Hall, who was pronounced dead at the scene. During a search of the area, an officer recovered three shell casings in front of a Duke Street SE residence.

On May 19, Norman Miller, 38, was found shot to death inside a vehicle near Southern Boulevard about 3 a.m.

No updates on either case have been provided by the Warren Police Department.
