WHAT: Board of Education meeting July 24

PRESENT: Joseph Castor, Joseph Datchuk, Sue Ellen Davis, Vincent Ragozine and Tammy King

The board:

• Approved William Young as curriculum and support services coordinator for grades K-12 on a two-year contract at $102,000 effective Aug. 1. Young will handle gifted education services and curriculum. Young previously served as Austintown school’s curriculum director. Superintendent Bryan O’Hara said Yong will handle some services previously provided to the district from the Trumbull County Educational Service Center.

• Approved Jaime King as a first-grade teacher on a one-year contract, Grace Swertfager as an intervention specialist at Prospect Elementary on a one-year contract, Tonya Blackam as a guidance secretary at $18.32 per hour, and Jesse Secrest as bus driver at $20.62 per hour.

• Accepted the resignation of Julianne Ware, assistant superintendent, effective July 31. Ware worked for the district for five years with two as assistant superintendent.

• Named Beth Drennen as administrative assistant to the superintendent on a one-year contract effective July 21.

• Approved Lindsay Durkin as in-school learning recovery / alternate placement support on a one-year contract effective Aug. 18.

• Approved the transfer of Dana Schubert from first grade to fourth grade math for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved Title I tutors at $21.80 per hour up to seven hours per day and 35 hours per week.

• Approved an agreement with Communications Matters LLC for services to St. Rose School for speech language pathology service at $90 per hour.

• Approved Karen Steed as a part-time teacher of the deaf at Prospect Elementary School at $26,857 and as a part-time pupil services American Sign language interpreter at Prospect School at $38,143.

• Received a $1,000 donation from the American Red Cross for miscellaneous scholarships.

• Heard from O’Hara bus routes have been finalized for the first day of school, which is Aug. 21.

WHAT: Township trustees meeting Monday

PRESENT: Lynn Michalec, Jeff Davis and Todd Williams

Trustees:

• Hired Michael Higgins as a part-time EMT and approved to pay half of the firefighter class for $750 if a grant is not available.

• Accepted the resignation of Levi Bearfield, road department supervisor, effective Aug. 15.

• Approved hiring Rich Jaeger as road department supervisor, effective Aug. 5.

• Approved the police department transferring a Chevy Impala to the fire department as a utility vehicle.

• Reported fire engine 23 passed its annual pump test.

• Reported the fire and police departments each received a $5,000 donation from the Vienna VFW.
