Night Out events set today
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August each year and encourages residents to spend time with their neighbors, meet local law enforcement and participate in community-building activities.
The event aims to promote strong police / community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.
The following communities have set National Night Out events:
• LIBERTY — 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at W.S. Guy School parking lot. There will be a parade at 6:30 p.m. from Shady Road to the school campus. Events include a police dog demonstration, drone demonstration, emergency vehicles display, car show, raffle baskets, games, music, a bounce house and fireworks at dark, weather permitting. In case of rain, the event will be Wednesday.
• NEWTON FALLS — 5 to 7 p.m. today at the village park, 225 W. Center St., with the public to meet with police and fire departments. The event includes food, a bounce house, a dunk tank and games.
• NILES — 5 to 7 p.m. today at Waddell Park in Niles. There will be drone demonstrations, police dog demonstrations, splash pad and playground activities and music.
• YOUNGSTOWN — 5 to 8 p.m. today at Raymond John Wean Foundation Park, 201 S. Phelps St. The event includes a bookbag giveaway, grocery giveaway, children’s games, bounce houses and music.
