McDonald board ratifies contract

McDONALD — The Board of Education has ratified a new three-year agreement with the district’s 25 classified workers that includes pay raises over the three years.

Treasurer Amanda Latell said the local Ohio Association of Public School Employees, which includes bus drivers, secretaries, custodial and maintenance, and cooks will receive a 3% pay increase in each year of the agreement.

The agreement is effective Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2028.

Latell said the three-year agreement with 3% increases were also approved for Diane Fossaceca, the central office assistant / EMIS coordinator at $27,942, and Pamela Streb, central office assistant / payroll clerk / superintendent’s secretary at $52,832.

The board also approved a two-year, 108-day shared services agreement with the Maplewood Local School District for a special education director who will work five days over two weeks in each district. Superintendent Gary Carkido said Roberta Wilson will serve as special education director and work three days in one district and two days in the other district one week and then switch days the following week.

Carkido said McDonald schools will pay 50% of Wilson’s salary, contributing $49,300 the first year and $50,779 the second year.

Also approved was Wilma Sylak as part-time transportation supervisor on a one-year contract at $14,685.

The board also approved an agreement with Grunau Fire Protection for the district’s sprinkler system, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, exit and emergency lights, and hood suppression system at $4,389. The board also approved a three-year maintenance agreement with Garduiner for HVAC maintenance at $4,644 per year.

In other business, the board:

• Heard from Carkido that part of the Roosevelt Elementary School roof and bus garage roof were replaced this summer. He said Ohio Edison was working on the electricity for the visitor’s side of the athletic complex and the ticket booth.

• Approved an agreement with the Trumbull County Combined Health District to have a district school building serve as a mass clinic during a public health emergency or crisis.

• Approved an agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center for special needs and other services at $590,047.

• Named Jessica Krumpak as delegate and Nick Gallo as alternate to the Ohio School Boards Association annual business meeting Nov. 16-18.

• Approved the McDonald Little Blue Devils to use the high school football stadium for four season games at no cost

• Approved Sharon Rose as an academic support instructor at the high school at $25 per hour not to exceed 28.75 hours per week.
