Man is arrested at Speedway in Liberty
LIBERTY — A Youngstown man is set to appear in court today after officers were called to his location for a welfare check Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Price, 34, is facing charges of disorderly conduct and open container in Girard Municipal Court.
According to a police report, Liberty police were called to the Belmont Avenue Speedway for a welfare check, where a caller said the man — later identified as Price — was sitting on top of an ice chest. The caller expressed concern for his safety, noting that he almost “fell off” the ice chest.
An officer made contact with Price, whom the officer immediately noticed drooping eyes and an alcoholic odor from, according to the report. The report states Price became agitated during the encounter, saying he did not have to speak to the officer.
He continued to argue with the officer and jumped down from the ice chest, proceeding to walk toward him in what the officer deemed was a “confrontational manner”, according to the report. The report states the officer told Price, “Don’t walk up on me” and Price gathered his belongings. The officer told Price he wasn’t free to leave and he told another officer of his behavior.
The report states Price was put in handcuffs after walking toward the officer again. Price refused to walk to the officer’s patrol car, however, dead-weighting his body but being assisted to the vehicle anyway, according to the report.
The report states the officer ordered Price 13 times to sit, but he failed to comply.
Another officer asked the Trumbull County jail to determine whether he would be booked for his charges, to which dispatchers said he would, and he was transported.
The report states he continued his “belligerent behavior” while there, which led to him being brought into temporary holding by staff.
Price was released from jail Sunday.
