Girard man pleads not guilty to domestic violence charge

LIBERTY — A Girard man made an appearance in court Wednesday, following his Tuesday afternoon arrest by Liberty police.

Tyler Gilmour, 39, pleaded not guilty to a charge of domestic violence in Girard Municipal Court in front of Judge Jeffery Adler.

According to a police report, two officers were sent via radio to their station, in response to a report. When they arrived, a woman reported she was being abused by Gilmour.

The woman told officers that she and Gilmour had been dating for over a year, but over the last two months, the relationship had deteriorated.

According to the report, she told officers that Gilmour had woken up late for work and asked her to help him make his lunch. She said she refused, however, telling him he was a grown man and to wake up on time to get his stuff together, which caused the pair to argue.

The woman said she spoke to Gilmour’s parole officer about the incident, who directed her to the police department.

The report states the woman told officers that he had a gun, which he allegedly pointed at her previously. She said her juvenile son had gotten a hold of it and shot the TV, an incident Gilmour told the woman not to speak of, or else he would hurt her, according to the report.

The woman said she had multiple videos of Gilmour abusing her and her dog, alleging that he had thrown a knife at her and it almost hit her son, according to the report. She recalled two other incidents, one in which he allegedly stabbed her in the leg and another, more recently, when he allegedly put a crack pipe on her leg, burning her, the report states.

The report states that the officers briefed another officer on the situation and that they were filing domestic violence charges against him.

Officers took Gilmour into custody with no issues. They performed a protective sweep of his house, where they found a meth pipe that was still smoking, according to the report.

Gilmour spoke with the officers about the woman, admitting that they had been arguing. He denied burning or brandishing a firearm toward her, and said he threw a screwdriver at her, not a knife, according to the report.

Gilmour allowed officers to search the house, where they found a bag of suspected methamphetamine in a top drawer and a digital scale. In a bedroom closet, they found a shoe box with two boxes of ammunition, a black holster and a magazine.

Another officer found a black pouch with two bags of marijuana and two bags of methamphetamine residue on the bathroom counter, according to the report.

A search of his vehicle revealed a bag of suspected methamphetamine in the glove box.

Gilmour is set to make a pretrial appearance Aug. 13.

He was released on bond Wednesday, with its condition not permitting him to be in contact with the victim or on the property’s premises.

He is allowed to obtain his personal belongings, but only while being accompanied by Liberty police.
