2 found dead in Howland home ID’d

HOWLAND — Officials are continuing to look into the deaths of two males found in a residence in the 5000 block of Mines Road on Tuesday.

Trumbull County Coroner Lawrence D’Amico said in a Wednesday afternoon email that the deceased were identified as 33-year-old Leonard James Roosa and 8-year-old Leonard Lee Roosa. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, he added.

Because of that, Howland police and fire officials were limited in what they could say. Police chief Nick Roberts recalled the situation, explaining that officers got there after firefighters.

“They said the CO2 levels were too high in the house to enter, so we had to wait for them to clear fumes out of the house before we could get inside,” Roberts said after the Howland trustees meeting on Wednesday. “There was no forced entry into the home, no foul play; the coroners’ office was notified, and they did the autopsies today.”

Fire Chief Raymond Pace confirmed carbon monoxide was present in the home, but wouldn’t confirm whether it was the cause of death, leaving that to be determined by the coroner’s office.

The Roosa family started a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral costs for both individuals, which has raised $11,350 of its $13,000 goal as of Wednesday evening.

Starting at $3.23/week.
