YPD: No signs of foul play in death of man found on South Side Sunday

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police say there are “no signs of foul play” at this time in the death of Richard A. Rayford, 40, whose body was found Sunday in a wooded area on East Myrtle Avenue on the South Side.

Capt. Jason Simon of the detective division of the Youngstown Police Department said Tuesday morning that “At this time, there are no signs of foul play, but the case remains under investigation.”

Rayford was reported missing by the Campbell Police Department about a week ago. The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office was notified at 11:25 a.m. Sunday that a deceased individual was found in a wooded area on East Myrtle Avenue on the South Side, according to a Monday coroner’s office press release.

Rayford was identified by fingerprints, the coroner’s press release states. An autopsy will be conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Campbell Police Department reported that Rayford was last seen at noon July 17 in the 500 block of Blossom Avenue in Campbell near Roosevelt Park in Campbell.
