WHAT: Township trustees meeting July 8
PRESENT: Mike Hovis, Mike Morelli and Bob McBride
Trustees:
• Spoke of Pete Pizzulo, who served the township as zoning inspector since 2018. Pizzulo drowned while vacationing last month. Mark Posey, who is zoning inspector for Kinsman, Gustavus and Vienna townships, is serving as Bazetta’s zoning inspector.
• Approved placing a 0.8-mill, five-year fire renewal levy on the November ballot to generate $98,169 annually. The owner of a $100,000 home would continue to pay $13 per year.
• Approved placing a 1.8-mill, five-year police renewal levy on the November ballot to generate $248,334 annually. The owner of a $100,000 home would continue to pay $35 per year.
• Reported the township has spent $11,476 in legal fees and numerous administrative hours looking into and responding to public records requests and other inquiries because of the county auditor’s failure to deposit tax money.
• Reported the fire department received a $3,227 emergency medical service grant from the Department of Public Safety for equipment.
• Announced the township has a senior watch program and any seniors wanting to participate can call 330-638-5503.

WHAT: Board of education meetings June 25 and July 14
PRESENT: Amie Crowder, Mark Stimpert, Teresa Oakes, Dan Williams and Tonya Kline
The board:
• Approved placing a 3.3-mill, 10-year emergency renewal levy on the November ballot. The levy generates $585,011 annually, and the owner of a $100,000 home would continue to pay $116 annually.
• Approved an agreement with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office for one school resource officer at $79,657. The contract is for one year and will end June 30, 2026.
• Approved the purchase of a 72-passenger school bus from Myers Equipment at $135,835 through the Ohio School Coalition cooperative purchasing program.
• Approved a management agreement with the Nutrition Group for school lunches and food purchasing.
• Approved an agreement with Akron Children’s Hospital for a health aide for the elementary school and a nurse for the high school.
• Hired Jessica Love as a high school counselor for the 2025-26 school year and Christopher Shaulis as a sixth-grade language arts teacher.
• Transferred teacher Gina Woodley from third to fourth grade for the 2025-26 year.
• Accepted the resignations of Madison Hartung, science teacher, Michael Geffert as a science teacher Zachary Parent as a high school guidance counselor, Jenna Smith as a junior high guidance counselor, Joe Johannsmeier as a custodian and Michael Sikora as assistant football coach.
