Lawsuit against newspaper dismissed

WARREN — Trumbull County Recorder Dawn Zinni’s lawsuit against the Tribune Chronicle has been dismissed at the request of Zinni and her attorney, Sean Logue, according to a court filing.

The filing shows she asked the lawsuit to be dismissed without prejudice, which means it can be refiled later. However, newspaper attorney David Marburger said the case “is over.”

Zinni filed the lawsuit against the newspaper and its political reporter, David Skolnick, on Oct. 31 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

It claimed the newspaper cast her in a false light and accused Skolnick of being openly biased toward her in his pre-election stories. Zinni, a Republican, later won the recorder seat over incumbent Tod Latell, a Democrat, in the Nov. 5 election.

The newspaper strongly denied the allegations in the lawsuit and sought its dismissal.

The lawsuit had sought $1 million in damages.

The newspaper was named an Associated Press Media Editors finalist in the best public service category for an article Skolnick wrote about Zinni owing more than $100,000 to creditors.

Starting at $3.23/week.
