Warren Township

WHAT: Trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Ed Anthony, Ryan Yoho and Kay Anderson

Trustees:

• Heard from Anthony a recent community cleanup was held at Johnson Community Center where the LaBrae High School football team, road department workers and community members helped place mulch around the playground. Anthony said when the ground is not as wet, playground equipment will be installed.

• Approved having an inspection done on property at 720 Miller St. SW. which has grass 8 inches or more and has become a nuisance by attracting insects and rodents. Resident Darryl Parker said cats and raccoons have been seen in the house. Officials said plans are to get the grass cut and place the cost on the property owner’s taxes.

• Heard from Road Supervisor David King that Highland Avenue between Dover and Bane streets will be closed for two weeks for a waterline project.

• Approved Daniel Garlough as a volunteer firefighter at $12.35 per hour.

• Will submit an application for a NatureWorks grant.

• Will look into cemetery headstones that are falling over.

Bristol

WHAT: Township trustees meeting June 17

PRESENT: Doug Seemann, Jeff Waldeck and Jim Cicchillo

Trustees:

• Heard from Ken Weeks the zoning commission will meet July 14 for discussions on alternative energy sources and solar energy systems working with the format that was provided by the Ohio Township Association and also looking at Vienna’s zoning resolution on solar energy. Weeks said there also has been discussions on short-term rentals, which included an inspection requirement for smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.

• Set a public hearing on zoning text amendments on zoning certificate fees for 6 p.m. July 1.

• Approved a quote from Mahan’s Sealcoating for $11,787 for sealing and patching the administration parking lot.

• Are reviewing quotes for security cameras.

• Announced a food truck 5 to 8 p.m. July 11 at township center. There also will be karaoke and an auction for new and used Christmas items.

• Announced an open house at the fire station 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 26.

• Announced new picnic tables have been placed at the pavilion.

• Reported the Ohio Safety Grant is supposed to open back up in mid- to late-July, and the ambulance cot is listed as an approved item, with officials planning to apply.

• Approved the demolition of a house at 2405 Mahan Denman Road, which has been abandoned for years and has back taxes owed.

Newton Township

WHAT: Trustees meeting Monday

PRESENT: Pete Augusta, Doreen Lutz and John Nemet

Trustees:

• Are continuing talks with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office on a new contract for police protection. Trustees said a proposed contract has a cost increase and will be $74,000 per year. Officials said they are limited on funds. The township is working under an extension of the current agreement.

• Are discussing possible road projects with Ohio Public Works Commission funds with the county engineer’s office. Nothing has been finalized.

• Heard from several residents on Carson Salt Springs Road of a cannon used to frighten birds away from corn fields being very loud, close to the road and also pointed in the direction of nearby homes. Residents said the property is at the corner of Newton Tomlinson Road and Carson Salt Springs Road. Trustees said it is a civil matter.
