Bridges across Trumbull to be tested for load tolerances

WARREN — Six companies have been approved by Trumbull County commissioners to receive contracts to do load ratings on 94 bridges across Trumbull County.

The combined contracts have a value of $233,453.

Companies awarded the contracts to do the load ratings for the VAR-Trumbull County Bridge Load Rating Project include MS Consulting, $49,945, for 21 bridges; Burgess & Niple, Inc., $49,809 for 22 bridges; Arcadis U.S. Inc., $41,900 for 15 bridges; DLZ Ohio Inc., $36,572 for 15 bridges; Euthenics, Inc., $5,880, for three bridges; and Palmer Engineering, $49,347 for 18 bridges.

Eighty percent of the projects will be paid for through a federal grant received through the County Engineers Association of Ohio, while 20% will be from the Trumbull County Engineers Association of Ohio.

“This is being done because of a federal mandate issued about a year to a year-and-a-half ago,” said Gary Shaffer, deputy county engineer. “They just released the funding we needed to do this.”

This is being done to make sure the bridges in Trumbull County can handle the load ratings of extremely heavy vehicles, Shaffer noted.

In addition to these six project resolutions, the commissioners awarded a $381,999 Trumbull signal upgrade project to Burgess & Niple Inc. that will affect 13 signalized intersections across the county, according to Shaffer.

The professional services agreement is being fully funded through a federal grant obtained through Eastgate Regional Council of Governments. No county general funds will be used.

Starting at $3.23/week.
