Comstock NW home targeted by gunfire

Staff report

WARREN — Residents narrowly escaped injury after a driveby shooting late Friday outside a Comstock Street NW residence, where gunmen fired into an occupied home.

According to a Warren police report, officers responded to the 700 block of Comstock Street NW at 8:13 p.m. after residents reported a white sedan abruptly stopping in front of their home as they waited on the porch for a child. The group fled inside moments before multiple gunshots struck the residence, according to witness accounts.

Officers recovered 10 spent 9mm shell casings on the road, split into two clusters: five near the driveway and five closer to the center line. A copper jacket from a bullet also was collected at the front door for DNA analysis, the report states.

Security footage from a neighboring home, timestamped approximately an hour earlier than the actual incident, captured a white sedan stopping in the westbound lane. A front-seat passenger briefly exited, ran along the sidewalk and returned to the vehicle before it sped southbound onto Wilson Avenue SW.

Several gunshots were heard and a round hit the residence, witnesses told police.

Investigators documented bullet damage to the home’s exterior and interior, and photographed the scene. No injuries were reported.

The suspect vehicle remains at large, described only as a white sedan. Authorities are reviewing footage and forensic evidence, including the recovered casings. The investigation is ongoing.
