Bazetta man pleads guilty in firearm case

WARREN — A Bazetta man pleaded guilty to reduced charges, including a felony discharge of a firearm at or near a residence.

In October, a Trumbull County jury deadlocked on felonious assault and other felony charges filed against Brett Budd, 41, of McCleary Jacoby Road. Budd pleaded guilty to a pair of misdemeanor assaults, in addition to the third-degree felony, and he will be sentenced after he undergoes a background investigation conducted by probation officers.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Trapp said the office will be asking for some prison time for Budd.

He was charged in connection to an incident in February when police investigated a shooting outside his Bazetta home after victims of an earlier rear-end traffic crash had driven to his home, causing a confrontation. Testimony produced at the fall trial stated that Budd drove away from a Howland bar and his pickup struck the vehicle. The two occupants of the vehicle then followed Budd’s pickup truck to his Bazetta home, and the incident ended with Budd firing his weapon at the vehicle that was parked in the road. One of the bullets struck a female occupant in the hand.

As part of the plea deal, Budd agreed to forfeit two weapons — an AR 15 rifle and Springfield Hellcat 9mm pistol.

Starting at $3.23/week.
