Engler wins race for Trumbull Juvenile Court judge
WARREN — Attorney Dave Engler has claimed victory in the race for the Domestic Relations and Juvenile Court judge seat in Trumbull County, promising a new era of leadership focused on efficiency, accountability, and the welfare of children and families.
Unofficial and incomplete results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections have Engler with 37,267 votes compared to challenger Kara Leonard Stanford’s 35,488.
Engler, a seasoned trial attorney and former county commissioner, will succeed Judge Sandra Stabile Harwood, who is retiring.
Engler celebrated his win with supporters, stating, “This election was about ensuring that every child and family in our community receives the attention and care they deserve. I am honored to take on this responsibility and to implement the changes that will make our court more effective and compassionate.”
Throughout his campaign, Engler emphasized the need for a more efficient judicial process, particularly in child custody cases.
He advocated for the use of tracking software to monitor case time lines and ensure timely rulings. Engler’s platform also included stronger consequences for repeat offenses in parental neglect cases, along with a commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through judicial avenues.
Stanford, who served as a magistrate in the same court, focused on a compassionate approach to family law, advocating for mediation and support services for families. While she fell short in this election, her vision for restorative justice resonated with many voters.
As Engler prepares to assume his new role, he looks forward to implementing his agenda aimed at reforming the family court system and addressing the critical issues facing children and families in Trumbull County.
