Warren city school district reports vandalism at Mollenkopf Stadium by unidentified juveniles
WARREN — John Lacy, Warren City School District director of operations, reported Monday to a Warren G Harding High School Resource Officer that a group of juveniles vandalized the press box at Mollenkopf Stadium.
According to Lacy’s account, four unidentified juveniles unlawfully accessed the school property and proceeded to vandalize the visitor’s press box. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, involved two possible girl and two boy perpetrators.
Lacy said the juveniles parked their bicycles at the rear of the visitors’ bleachers before jumping the fence using a cement barricade.
Once on stadium grounds, Lacy believes they gained entry to the press box using an unlocked door but that detail remains unverified at the time of reporting. After gaining access, the individuals are said to have unplugged all the camera feeds and then discharged a fire extinguisher throughout the press box.
Lacy reported the vandals trashed the press box and then vandalized the softball field and the field’s dugout.
The school told police since the cameras had been tampered with, they’re unsure whether any footage is usable from the incident. Since then, a lock has been installed on a roof access hatch on the press box and the cameras have been restored, the report says.
This incident marks the second instance of vandalism on the high school’s premises.
Last week, construction crews at the Warren City Schools Wellness and Recreational Center also reported vandalism at the construction site.
