Bond reduced for 67-year-old accused of Vienna arson

WARREN — Bond of $100,000 was set Monday for Clarence Leet Jr., 67, of Youngstown Kingsville Road in Vienna on a charge of aggravated arson.

The charge is connected to a fire at a relative’s home, near his own residence, in the 1800 block of Youngstown Kingsville Road (state Route 193) on March 6.

Chuck Morrow, county assistant prosecutor, told Judge Cynthia Rice that Leet’s current bond is set at $250,000.

“Mr. Leet allegedly attempted to set a house on fire where there were two people in the residence, including his sister,” he said.

When his attorney asked for Leet’s bond to be reduced to something Leet might be able to post, and said Leet has his own home where he can stay, Morrow added quickly that the home is “adjacent to the home he tried to set on fire.”

Leet’s relative told Vienna police a fire was started on the west side of her home, according to a police report. The witness saw the suspect at the rear sliding door standing with a yellow gasoline can in his hand, police said.

The victim told police Leet threw a burnt rug in the yard and then stomped out the blaze. Police, according to the report, found the strong smell of gasoline and collected the burnt rug as evidence.

Leet told police he had a dispute with the victim over a set of keys and a radio, the report states.

Starting at $3.23/week.
