Man, 51, in wheelchair doused with hot water

WARREN — A Youngstown man in a wheelchair was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital on Thursday with burns to his face after someone allegedly dumped hot liquid on him.

The East Wood Street man, age 51, was seated in his wheelchair in a parking lot in the 900 block of West Market Street about 9:10 a.m., a police report states, when someone approached him with a cup of boiling water saying: “You’re going to take this or I’m going to shoot you.”

The man, who the victim knew, threw what appeared to be water into the man’s face and fled the area in an unknown vehicle. The report states the victim wheeled to the nearby Sunoco gas station, where workers called 911.

The man was taken to the hospital via ambulance with minor burns. It was not known if they were caused by a chemical or by the heat of the liquid.
