WHAT: Board of Education May meeting
PRESENT: Sarah Kurpe, Ronda Bonekovic, Derek Mihalcin, Jerry Necastro and Melissa Sydlowski
The board:
• Heard from Superintendent Toby Gibson that officials from six other school districts have been visiting to see the district’s Makerspace room and equipment with some planning to make a second visit when the new equipment is functional. Gibson said the district is in the process of moving the Makerspace room to a new area of the high school;
• Discussed having a med clinic within the schools. Quick Med officials made a presentation to the board on what services it can provide for handling minor injuries and health-related issues of students;
• Approved a one-time payment of $1,500 each for Carla Stearns, transportation; and Cheryl Bell and Kimberly Osberg, both cafeteria, for extra work and responsibilities assumed in the absence of their full-time supervisor;
• Hired Jacob Shaffer as a high school math teacher at $39,017; Joshua Beckert as a high school math teacher at $45,687; Salim Sayers as a school psychologist $63,028; and Danielle Buie as a school nurse at $33,348;
• Approved the disposal of 78 library books and materials that are outdated, worn beyond repair and are duplicates;
• Approved an agreement with 422 Sales for the removal of a 2008 Freightliner bus and related bus equipment to be sold at auction June 25;
• Approved Juneteenth as a paid holiday for 11- and 12-month employees of the district;
• Entered into an agreement with Hope Center for Arts and Technology (HopeCAT) for an after-school program for grades 7-12 at no cost to the district;
• Entered into an agreement with Vision to Learn for providing free vision sceenings, vision exams and related services for students in the district;
• Approved the Success by Six program for six weeks over the summer to prepare kindergarten students for school;
• Approved Randy Clark as athletic director at $9,000;
• Approved membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for 2022-23 year;
• Rescheduled the next meeting to 5:30 p.m. June 29.
