Dog that worked with state fire marshal dies
COLUMBUS — A dog that worked seven years for the state fire marshal’s office died last weekend, according to a news release.
India, a retired accelerant detection agent for the fire marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau, had served the investigative unit from February 2011 until her retirement in January 2018. Fire Marshal Kevin S. Reardon said the Labrador was “extremely personable and skilled” and will be missed.
According to the release, India started out at a guide dog training facility until flunking out because she constantly was sniffing. Because of “her strong food drive and a strong sense of purpose,” the release stated she was found by federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials who focused on accelerant detection. India was trained in the food reward methodology and by all accounts, state officials said she loved her training and work.
During her time with the fire marshal’s office, India was based out of Tuscarawas County with handler John Weber.
