HOWLAND — After being without a home for close to three years, the Trumbull County Republican Party opened the doors to a new campaign headquarters.
Elected Republicans, those seeking office next year and party faithful were on hand Friday to cut the ribbon on the location, 1195 Niles Cortland Road SE, which used to house a bakery.
“I put off establishing a headquarters because I didn’t want fundraising for that instead of candidates,” said Trumbull Republican Chairman Kevin Wyndham. “But we realized the need was great enough to get one.”
The party wanted a location “with great visibility, great parking, centrally located,” he said.
“This space we found fulfills all of those variables,” Wyndham said.
The party has leased the location through 2021, he said.
Republicans used a location in downtown Warren for the 2016 election and before that had space in the Eastwood Mall, but left there in 2015.
“We were without a permanent home for nearly three years until now,” Wyndham said. “This gives us a hub and a distribution point as well as a meeting place and a location to host candidates and have our call center.
“It provides all the basic activities we need to provide as an organization,” he added.
Wyndham pointed to Donald Trump in 2016 becoming the first Republican to win Trumbull County since 1972. However, during the 2016 election, no county Republicans won office.
