Bowers’ drug case dismissed

WARREN — A city resident stopped by police with less than 100 grams of marijuana in his car in mid-May had his case dismissed during a hearing before Warren Municipal Court Judge Thomas Gysegem Tuesday.

D’Andre Bowers, 1457 Central Parkway Ave. NE, was cited on the possession charge after the car in which he was riding was pulled over because the driver failed to make a proper stop, according to a police report. It was during the traffic stop that a police officer found a small amount of marijuana on the passenger side of the vehicle, according to Bowers.

Bowers has argued the drugs was not his, but were left in the vehicle by another person.

The case was dismissed because of changes in state law about the legal use of hemp products, according to Bowers and court records.

Bowers is chairman of the Warren Neighborhood Initiative, which is the nonprofit organization sponsoring the proposed wellness and recovery center in the Reeves Apartments, 295 W. Market St.
