Johnny K’s moves into Niles building

NILES – If Christian and Cameron Crawford mind their grandpap, they might just find themselves riding alongside him in a new Can-Am Maverick X rs.

“That would be OK,” Christian, 8, said quietly, as his 6-year-old brother agreed.

But if Bob Donaldson of Greenford wasn’t set on that option on Friday, he had plenty of other new and used powersports vehicles from which to choose.

Johnny K’s Niles Powersports Campus is hosting its grand opening at 430 Youngstown Warren Road, formerly the home of Jim Pace Pontiac. It boasts a 20,000-square-foot showroom that operations manager Michael Capito describes as an “experience for customers that lets them everything the (business) has to offer, all under one roof. You experience the enthusiasm here.”

“We wanted to create a place where people could look, take everything in and see all of their options,” Capito said.

The new showroom is based on the Bombardier Recreational Products design. Canadian-based BRP makes several of vehicles Johnny K’s sells.

This weekend, Johnny K’s is inviting the community to check out its new building during its official grand opening. The event, which opened Friday, continues today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Today’s grand opening activities will include a motorcycle stunt show, a performance by Colin Dussault’s “Harmonica Driven Blues Project” Band, bike show and giveaways. Attendees will also have a chance to win a new, $25,000 Indian motorcycle or a new Cam Am Maverick Side by Side.

The store, owned by John Kalogerou, a lifelong Warren area resident, also sells parts, accessories and apparel, and includes a service center.

Johnny K’s Indian Motorcycle of Youngstown, also owned by Kalogerou, with a 15,000-square-floor showroom is next door. That building was once home to Jim Pace’s Saturn of Route 422 at 420 Youngstown Warren Road. Kalogerou renovated both buildings, moving his Johnny K’s Niles Powersports business from down the road to its new location within the past year.

Kalogerou owns a third showroom at his Johnny K’s Powersports – Lodi in Burbank.

The renovated campus’ features See-Doo, Can Am, Polaris, Kawasaki, Indian and Victory Motorcycles on display inside its showroom.

“You find that with the people who work here, we’re all enthusiasts in one way or another,” said Joe Little, a floor manager. “We ride, own, really appreciate the vehicles.”
