Niles gains $402,000 for electrical upgrades

NILES — One part of the city soon will see some power upgrades for the sake of enterprise, thanks to a grant that was nearly six months in the works. According to a news release from Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz, the city has been awarded $402,500 by the Appalachian Regional Commission to expand the electrical capacity of industrial areas on its west side. Man accused of inducing panic at city festival

WARREN — A Warren man was arrested during the Trumbull County African American Heritage Festival Saturday evening after reports that he had a gun. Robert Harvey, 52, pleaded not guilty to a charge of inducing panic in front of Warren Municipal Court Judge Natasha Natale Monday morning. According to a police report, an officer standing in the area of West Market and Main streets was approached by a witness who said a man had a gun in his hand and a woman who asked if officers were going to do something about a guy with a gun. Brookfield nursing home evacuated because of fire

BROOKFIELD — The Brookfield Fire Department helped evacuate about 80 people from a nursing facility in Masury on Monday afternoon after a fire alarm call. According to the fire department’s social media site, the department received a call about 4:20 p.m. of smoke and fire and a possible explosion in the facility’s oxygen storage room at Addison Healthcare Center. Fire crews were able to get the fire out quickly. The social media post states that the sprinkler system inside the building was activated. The fire was contained to one room.
