A friend of a Cortland woman who was killed while riding her motorcycle last week on state Route 46 in Bazetta is asking for financial help for the Cortland woman's family.
Heather M. Robinson, 42, died Friday morning when her motorcycle collided with a horse near Cadwallader Sonk Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating, but stated that she was traveling south when two horses entered the road.
Robinson struck one of the horses, causing her motorcycle to travel off the right side of the road and hit a ditch. She died at the scene.
Robinson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drug impairment are not believed to be factors in the 4:20 a.m. crash, the patrol stated. Both horses were returned to their enclosure, one with minor injuries.
Robinson's friend, Stephanie Fedorchak, created a GoFundMe account asking for financial help for Robinson's family and to give support for her two daughters, the GoFundMe account states.
Fedorchak stated in the post that Robinson was a "dear friend and co-worker who has always been the kind of person others can count on."
Fedorchak added, "Heather was an incredible nurse, Navy veteran, a true team player, and someone who could always make us laugh even on the hardest days.
"More than anything, Heather was a devoted single mother who did everything for her two daughters, who are both in high school. Anyone who knows Heather knows how deeply she loved her girls and how hard she worked to support them."
The post continued, "As a single mother, Heather carried so much on her shoulders, and this is a chance for all of us to show up for someone who has given so much to others."
As of Tuesday evening, the fundraiser was $10,000 short of Fedorchak's $25,000 goal.
